Pedestrian Crossing Boulder Highway Killed

Posted on August 28, 2012

A 19-year-old still unnamed female pedestrian from Henderson crossing southbound in a marked crosswalk on Boulder Highway near Corn Street was hit and killed by a car around 2:10 a.m. Saturday. Police say she died at the scene.

The car, a 1995 Toyota Avalon, was driven by Ricky J. Bonilla, 26, of Las Vegas, who was arrested for driving on a revoked license. He voluntarily submitted to blood testing the results of which show that he may not be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. Bonilla’s license was revoked for a previous driving while intoxicated conviction. Preliminary investigation indicates that speeding may also be ruled out as a cause of the accident.

There have so far been 10 fatal accidents, resulting in 13 deaths, within Henderson jurisdiction this year.

Meanwhile in related news, the police has still to find the suspects responsible for two separate hit-and-run cases that happened on Friday.

In the first incident, a 21-year-old still unnamed woman was injured and taken to a hospital after she was struck by a light colored Jeep at about 12:30 on North Sierra Street near the entrance to the Rancho San Rafael Park. Less than an hour later, a man on a bicycle was hit by a late 1990’s model black Ford Explorer in front of the Circus Circus on Sierra Street in Reno. In both these cases, unlike Bonilla, the suspects fled the scene.
