One Dead in One-Car Accident Near Flamingo and Nellis

Las Vegas Metro Police said a vehicle carrying two occupants crashed into a light pole near Flamingo Road and Nellis Boulevard just before 10:00 p.m. Friday night.

According to initial reports, a 2007 Hyundai Elantra was traveling west on Flamingo attempting to make a left turn on Perry Street when  it swerved and crashed into the light pole. The male driver of the Hyundai was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The female passenger is in serious condition.

The LVMPD Accident Investigation Section is still conducting its investigation on the circumstances leading to the collision.

In related news, one northbound lane of Interstate 15 is closed after another single-automobile accident happened at 6:50 p.m. near mile marker 66, about 12 miles north of the Las Vegas Speedway also on Friday. Police said a white Ford Explorer was traveling in the right lane of the interstate when the left rear tire of the SUV separated. The car drove off the right side of the highway, broke through a fence and rolled before coming to a stop. The five occupants of the SUV incurred non-life threatening injuries.

Still in related news, a motorcycle rider temporarily lost consciousness after he slammed into a green Pathfinder on 4th and Lake Street around 11:30 a.m. also last Friday. The motorcycle rider has non-fatal injuries but police said he did lose consciousness temporarily. Police believe one of the vehicles may have ran a red light and are speaking to witnesses in the area to determine which vehicle may have been at fault.
